I found some books my second grade son likes to read!

My second grade son is a reluctant reader. He just does not see reading as fun. The only time he does read is when I tell him that he needs too (like the 15 mins he needs to read nightly for school). Well, was I surprised to come into his room and find him reading a book for fun of all things. It was Diary of  a Spider by Doreen Cronin. It is a really cute book with engaging pictures and a not too much text on a page that can frustrate my son.

Well since he likes that book so much. I just came back from the library with the others in the series. Diary of a Worm, Diary of a Fly and I saw that Doreen Cronin also authored a Caldecott award winner Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type. They all look cute and fun to read so hopefully I will turn my son into a reader yet!

If you have any other good books for second grade boys please let me know. I am always trying to find ideas for him.

  1. You could have your son read books written by Roald Dahl. He wrote so many fanastic books for young children. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "The BFG" are examles of Dahl's books. There are movies based on many of his books. As a reward for reading those books, you can have your son watch the movies.

  2. I like the idea of the reward of watching the movie if he reads the book. I will have to try that.

Works For Me Wednesday How to Save Money on Books

I love to read books but our budget doesn't allow me to spend much money on that hobby so I have devised a way to read great books at no cost.

When I see a book that I find interesting on someone's blog or Facebook post that directs me to Amazon I put that book into my wishlist on Amazon. Then when I have time or the need for a new book to read. I go to my library system's online search catalog and refer back to my Amazon wishlist and see if any of the titles are available.

I can put them on hold and I get an email from my library when they are available. This little trick has saved me so much money over the years. I have been able to read some wonderful books that otherwise I could not afford.

Homemade Pizza Using a Bread Machine

The Dough

Put in bread machine in this order or by what your machines manufacture recommends:

7/8 cup warm water
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon olive oil
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoon active yeast

Set on dough setting (my machine has a pizza dough setting I use that) Start machine my pizza dough cycle lasts 50 mins

While that runs in the machine I make put together the ingredients for the sauce, here is the recipe that I use for that.

The Sauce

Mix in a medium bowl the following ingredients:

1 15oz can tomato sauce
1 6oz can tomato paste
1 tablespoon ground oregano
1 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

When the dough cycle is finished I spread dough out on slightly greased with olive o…
